Sheitel is the Yiddish word for a wig or half-wig worn by some Orthodox Jewish married women in order to conform with the requirement of Jewish Law to cover their hair.

Many married Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair with sheitels ( Kosher wigs) as a sign of modesty. Some of the Kosher wigs are pretty ugly looking, but many of them are gorgeous, and they can cost thousands and thousands of dollars, depending on the length, color, and style you want.
